In September 2006 we planted a woodland garden on part of the Firies School site. We planted Oak, Holly, Silver Birch, Rowan, Hawthorn, Elder, Cotoneaster, Clematis and Rude Rasberries. We now have a small woodland area where many of the trees are already taller than the children and all have been named, labelled and mapped by them. Owners of Gortbrack Organic Farm came in September 2009 and spent a day with us planning out our Environmental School Plan. Since then we have developed an organic vegetable garden in 2010. Scarecrows have been made and natural pest control measures have been put in place. We are gardening using organic principles so all the children are learning valuable lessons for the future conservation of their natural environment, (As well as, we hope having some good fun along the way!).
